The exhibition Print Promises explores the visual richness of printmaking in South Africa.  The remarkable and different manner in which South African artists have turned to print – whether in response to various injustices or exploring an artistic expression – are presented in dialogue with prints by artists who are in other countries, contexts or even centuries.

Printmaking has long been a medium that can easily be mistaken for a drawing; it is in fact a multifaceted discipline that involves a wide variety of techniques and materials.  Whilst the artworks in the exhibition represent the major printmaking techniques, it gives but a hint of the abundant possibilities of style and practice found in printmaking.

On Saturday 2nd June, join us for a walkabout of the exhibition by ISANG curator Andrea Lewis and a printmaking demonstration by Elize de Beers of David Krut Projects Cape Town of two techniques, monotype and drypoint.

Elize de Beers is a printmaker with strong interest in intaglio and monotype printmaking.  She is a graduate of Michaelis School of Fine Arts and currently manages the David Krut Projects gallery in Cape Town.  David Krut Projects is one of South Africa’s eminent printmaking studios, working with some of South Africa’s most respected artists to create their artistic visions in print.

Coffee/tea/juice and pastries will also be served in the atrium, included in the ticket price.

Separately, the Friends in collaboration with David Krut Project will be hosting a printmaking workshop for children 5 years of age and older at David Krut Projects Cape Town on Youth Day, Saturday the 16th of June open to.  Space is limited, priority given to the children of our Individual Plus members.

Print Promises opens 19 May is on until the end of September at ISANG.
