About the series: This series look at private collections/collecting for the home. Members are invited into private homes for an intimate view of private collections and an opportunity to see works not in the public domain.  We also hope to expose members to the passion behind the collecting and make collecting a Friends’ experience.

Our first visit is to the home of the “Artist Collector”.  What is wonderful about this private collection is the love and respect the Artist Collector clearly bestows on it.  The home is not hung like an austere and minimalist gallery but a place where a space can always be found for a new friend.  If there is a focus on the art collection, it could be said to be Afrikaner history, with artworks by Johannes Meintjes and Christo Coetzee amongst many other eminent artists.  These sit in a familial fashion with fine Cape Dutch furniture and historic blue and white porcelain.

The series is held on the occasion of the exhibition FRIENDS50, celebrating 50 years of the Friends acquiring art for the nation, currently on show at Iziko SA National Gallery.
